So the biggest set of waterfalls on the Wisconsin River. In 1839 a guy by the name of George Stevens made his way up to construct a damn for a pool of water to run a sawmill. He stored some of his equipment at a Point down river later called Stevens Point. He got the ball rolling to form a community called Wausau. It’s an Indian name. It means, far away. The Chippewa we’re from around Lake Superior so Wausau would be, very far away, place to go. There is so much history of Central Wisconsin, Marathon County, all wrapped up in this one photograph.
