This is an interesting document. It's a deed for land.. so-called government land. The land was given to veterans of the war of 1812... when you think about it, they were too old to farm it, so they sold it to new immigrants who are young enough to clear the land and carve out a life. It's dated December ninth 1854. For some reason, my uncles, Evenor and Walton Brekke, gave me this history. It needs to be told.
Log cabin store and dwelling of Thomas Knoph built in 1852 in Scandinavia WI. Building is presently located and being restored in Ellison Park. The ledger of the goods sold and traded from this building in the 1850s gives insight into the first pioneer settlers of this township in central Wisconsin.
The restored Hallestad Cabin. It's now in Hartman Creek State Park WI. Originally from Scandinavia Township just to the north.
